Before we go over how to disable werfault.exe, keep in mind that this should only be used as a last resort.
Werfault.exe, in addition to 3rd-party application programs, is used by Windows to keep track of errors and suggest solutions. Disabling prevents Microsoft from detecting problems and developing a solution. This can result in issues lingering longer than they should.
Now that you’ve gotten that out of the way, press Windows Key + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter. This will bring up a list of background services that Windows runs. Scroll to Windows Error Reporting Service at the bottom of the list.
Then, right-click on Windows Error Reporting Service and choose Properties from the drop-down menu. Click the dropdown list next to Startup Type and select Disabled.
Finally, click Apply to finish disabling the werfault.exe process.
Almost all werfault.exe application errors should be resolved by disabling werfault.exe. However, if the error persists, your only option is to reinstall Windows.
Maintain the latest versions of your operating system, application programs, and hardware drivers. Werfault.exe errors are caused by outdated drivers, and you won’t be able to fix them unless you update everything on your computer.
Updating also eliminates the need for unnecessarily drastic measures such as disabling werfault.exe.
